Working with our public sector partners towards informed compliance

About Us

Public Partners: Advice, Consultancy and Training - P-PACT - provides expert services to those involved in the delivery of information requested under the complex regimes of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, the Data Protection Act 1998, the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and the Regulations on the Re-use of Public Sector Information 2005 - and in the important associated areas of Information Governance, Information Security and Records Management.

Advice, Consultancy and Training are provided on the basis of in-depth knowledge and understanding of the legislation which governs disclosure, and of the resultant issues which face those tasked with delivering compliance.

Christine Gifford, the Managing Director of P-PACT, was a founding member of the working party on Openness in Government and was an independent adviser to the Lord Chancellor on the implementation of the Freedom of Information Act; she is currently a member of the Advisory Panel on the use of Public Sector Information, advising the Government on the accessibility and re-use of public sector information which may have commercial value. She is also a member of the Advisory Council on National Records and Archives which is chaired by the Master of the Rolls.

Because of her work on access to information, she has been made an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply. She was also co-editor of 'The Right to Know'.

Christine Gifford and her team have worked successfully with a large number of organisations across the public sector, including Local Authorities, Health Trusts and the Police. Senior associates - most of whom have backgrounds in the public sector - are chosen for the depth of their knowledge and experience in the application of the legislation, and their ability to offer relevant advice and guidance based on a practical understanding of the issues involved.

P-PACT provides advice and guidance in a number of ways through:

  • frequent updating of this website - much of which is free to all;
  • regular updates sent directly to you through our Information Agenda;
  • membership of our subscription service which provides detailed case-based advice and interactive opportunities for the sharing of experience and knowledge and
  • a 24/7 helpline for members which provides access to all senior associates of P-PACT
  • relevant and informed bespoke training within particular sectors or organisations.

"In the current circumstances of reduced budgets and increased concern for transparency and accountability, information rights are a front line service, not a mere back office function. We all have to do more for less, but much is expected of all of us working in the information rights field."
